7 things you didn't know about Toronto

The weather given by the Canada Life Building

Maybe you have already noticed that the top building colour changes with the weather. Here is the decoder:

  • Green: clear

  • Orange: cloudy

  • Flashing orange: rain

  • Flashing white: snow

As for the lights below the top, they indicate temperature variations. So, if the light goes from bottom to top, it means that the temperature will increase; from top to bottom, it will decrease. If there is no variation in temperature then all the lights remain on.

The forecast weather corresponds:

  • From 7am: morning conditions

  • From 11am: the afternoon conditions

  • From 3 p.m.: evening conditions

  • From 7 p.m.: next day conditions

The shortest ferry in the world

When you go to Billy Bishop Airport, you can access the shortest ferry in the world since the crossing is only 120 meters long for a 90 seconds journey.

Music below the Eaton Center in Dundas Square

Have you ever noticed that classical music comes out of the metro at Dundas Square? The place is very crowded; this system has been implemented to reduce aggressiveness between people. In addition, this music is loud enough to prevent people from "zoning" around the square.

The name of the Raptors

First of all, that is the only NBA team in Canada. In order to be close to his audience, they let people vote for the new name. Among the finalist names you can find several names of dinosaurs. And for good reason ! In the old days, Jurassic Park was really a popular movie. If you’re curious, the final list was: Beavers, Bobcats, Dragons, Grizzlies, Hogs, Raptors, Scorpions, T-Rex, Tarantulas, and Terriers.

A golden building !

The walls of the Royal Bank Plaza were made with 24 carat gold. 71 kg of pure gold were used to build these windows. In addition to its shine, the Gold present on the building is an excellent thermal insulator which makes it possible to avoid a great loss of energy.

The Toronto flag

Here is the Toronto flag. Perhaps you have never seen it ... The latter represents the twin towers of the town hall. The shape also recalls the Toronto "T". For the record, some rumors say that by putting the flag upside down, we could see Adam (with the maple instead of a vine leaf) ...

130 000 tonnes

C'est la quantité de sel moyenne utilisée par la ville de Toronto pour saler les routes ! Impressionnant non ?
