What should I visit in Ottawa ?

When I was speaking to people, I realized that Ottawa was not a city well regarded by many Canadians. In this article, I am going to prove to you that there are many things you can do while coming to Ottawa.

Let’s go for a stroll !

For a walk, I suggest an itinerary, but this is your call!

Go up Bank Street: Along this street you can observe interesting Street art, if you want to take beautiful photos this is a place that I recommend!

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier : A must-see in Ottawa, this monument is guarded by soldiers. If you come at an exact time from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. you’ll be able to observe the change of guard of the soldiers during a song ceremony of ten minutes. This event is also observable at Rideau Hall.

Alexandra Bridge : Then head to Major's Hill Park, to enjoy the atmosphere of this small park and the view it offers over Quebec. Crossing the Alexandra Bridge, you’ll pass from Ontario to Quebec, thus changing the laws and customs (French goes in first position and English in second position on the panels).

Go along the border to the Portlage bridge. Along the way, you’ll find statues, a Japanese garden and (if you’re lucky like me) beavers. Being on the Quebec side you’ll have the chance to admire a beautiful view of the Parliament.

Another idea for a walk : If the weather is nice and the heart tells you, you can take a walk along the canal waterway. Along the way, you can observe an impressive system of locks.

Even if you’re not really a museum person, you definitely have to visit these:

Canada Science and Technology Museum

The Canadian Museum of Nature

One of the best museums I have done so far, has 5 floors each divided into several themes. You’ll find a room devoted to dinosaur bones, but also a floor where you can observe minerals (special mention for an exposed lunar stone) and precious stones. This is a museum that is very interactive if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t like to read.

Prices :

· Around $ 20 for the entrance to this museum (avoid the parking at $ 3 per half hour, or $ 5 in total if you arrive after 4:30 p.m.).

· September 3rd to May 31st: Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday until 8 p.m.

· June 1st to September 7th: Daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday until 8 p.m.

Where to eat and drink

To fill you up I recommend 2 places:

The Mill St Brew which is a fairly widespread chain in Canada, these establishments brew their own beer and advise you which one goes best with your dish. You’ve got to try: The Moroccan Falafel Salad will surprise you with its sweet and savory mixture.

BDT: I was advised by someone from the region but I did not have the opportunity to test it, it is an establishment which has very good opinions.
